The domestic intelligence service in the eastern state of Saxony has designated the far right AfD party an extremist group. The move follows similar decisions in Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt.

The regional association of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) in Saxony has been classified a right-wing extremist organization, the state’s Office for the Protection of the Constitution announced Friday.

After Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony in eastern Germany is the third state association to be given the designation.
