Investigators have released a video, and image, of a missing Vancouver teenager who failed to return home after school on Thursday.

Vancouver police have also reissued its appeal for public help as they try to locate 13-year-old Anaiya Bains.

“With every hour that passes, our concern for Anaiya’s safety and the urgency to find her increases,” said Sgt. Steve Addison.

“We’re all worried about Anaiya, and we want her to come home safely. We’re asking everyone to look closely at these images and to call us immediately if they have information (to) help us find her.”

Anyone who sees Anaiya Bains is asked to call 911 immediately.

The video and image are from a home security camera and a vehicle dash camera. They show Bains walking north on Summerville Street, between East 36th and East 37th avenues, around 4:14 p.m. on Thursday.

“These are the last known images of Anaiya and they show what she was wearing the day she went missing. They also give us an indication of which direction she was heading, which helps us focus our search efforts,” Addison said.

“Our officers may knock on your door if your house or vehicle has a camera, but we’re also asking anyone who lives in the area to review their home security video and to email vpd.missing@vpd.ca us if they have any recorded images of Anaiya.”

Bains is described as 5-f00t-7 with a slim build, long black hair, brown eyes and braces.

She was last seen wearing a black Nike hoodie with a white swoosh logo on the chest, a white Spider-Man t-shirt, grey sweatpants and white Nike high-top runners.

She was carrying a solid blue and grey Nike backpack and gold headphones.

Anyone who sees her is asked to call 911 immediately.

Vancouver police say they have searched extensively for Bains, including a drone search and increased foot patrols in the neighbourhood she went missing from.

Police are also encouraging residents to check their yards, open carports, and outbuildings for any sign of Bains, who may have sought shelter from the near-freezing overnight temperatures.
